THE ROYAL ORGAN DUO
Royal Organ Duo are back, people. New album. Shithouse to Penthouse. That’s right. No messing about. Although they have been messing about for quite a long time, to be fair.
They’ve been quietly operating somewhere between Booker T and David Axelrod — groove, drama, cinematic business — all powered by organs, because apparently organs are still legal.
Last year, White Lines, the 7-inch on Detroit’s Funk Night Records, was getting regular plays on BBC 6 Music, putting the Royal Organ Duo back on the radar and introducing their particular brand of organ-based activity to a wider public.
And now there’s a whole album. Shithouse to Penthouse. Cinematic. Ambitious. Questionable title, excellent tunes. Plus collaborations with two superb vocalists, Emma Noble and Spoonface, bringing some actual human voices into what has traditionally been quite an organ-heavy situation.
2025 was meant to be the big comeback. Then Oasis came back, everyone spent all their money on tickets, and suddenly the Royal Organ Duo were playing to people who appeared to have misplaced both their wallets and their hairpieces.
But they’ve carried on. New album, new material, new collaborations — same organs.
Royal Organ Duo. Still here. Still making noise.
Since being unable to accept knighthoods back in 2008 due to a gig commitment at The Murderer’s Arms in London’s Shepherds Bush on the same day, The Royal Organ Duo have earned their non-existent titles entertaining courtiers all over the United Kingdom and United States of America, in venues ranging from prestigious hangouts like the Groucho and Soho House, to numerous dodgy discotheques, retirement homes and good old fashioned back street boozers.
Originally formed back in 2001, the Duo starting worked for Her Royal Highness The Queen of England, providing the music and general vibe at Royal functions within Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Sandringham, and sailed the high seas as the house band on the QE2. This allowed them to establish a large repertoire of funk based psychedelic covers and build up a celebrity packed fan-base. At one point they became so well known in Upper Class circles that Her Majesty the Queen approached them with an offer of appearing on the front of the new twenty pound note (£20 Sterling)- a true honour but another opportunity that the duo missed out on as they were away backing a well-known soul legend in America.
Being able to entertain people from all walks of life the duo are now performing for the common people as their decade on higher ground came to an end. They have been seen reveling at top public events such as Camp Bestival, House of Vans, Edinburgh Festival, Clapham Grand as well as impressing corporate types at Not on the High Street and House of Vans. Book the duo and you will be guaranteed a party fit for royalty.
Kind Regards,
The Royal Organ Duo (rod)
